It's Official

I have cancelled my Core membership. I'll be an ordinary starving artist like everyone else as of May 16. Will I ever go back? Eh... I sent them some pretty scathing feedback, so it would feel hypocritical to go back at this point, but I guess anything is possible. My main issue is that even though Core gives you perks, these perks are not enough to help someone like me make money. Even getting Core on sale and trying to take advantage of the perks, I still lost money on it. "Just get better at art" you say. I'm always trying to do that, but it seems like I can't do it fast enough to get any customers before a better artist lures them away. I'm extremely busy and always tired from my physically demanding day job (which I like, btw, but it's killing me lol), so art has unfortunately taken a back seat to life. I'm going to keep trying, but Core hasn't really helped me, so it's going away. For now, at least. I am researching other art platforms. And I will continue to throw shade on the shiny new features DA keeps holding out before saying "Oh, and by the way, you have to have Core, and even then, we still take a cut of whatever you do with this."

Tablet woes...

1 min read

I don't know how long I have... my drawing tablet has begun doing some really weird stuff to me, and I've tried the usual solutions. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, reinstalled the driver, unplugged and replugged so many times...

Long story short, I can still do art, but it has become a very nerve-racking process, and takes longer than it should. I don't know how long this will last before it quits on me completely.

So, I want to order a new tablet. I need your help. The quickest/easiest way for me to earn money is to sell off some character designs, but I'm also pretty good at writing, so if you want a short story or poem about your character, or if you want me to check your post for errors - anything of the sort, shoot me a message and let me know what you want and how much you can pay. It all helps!

Something I know I can do even if my tablet quits is sketch. I can always draw on paper and take pictures of them. Here are examples of my sketching:

Thank you so much. <3

Beware the scam

2 min read

Why someone would try to scam me over $2.00 is beyond me, but I thought I should warn my fellow artists, since I know I am not the only one whom this person has scammed. On furry-paws.com, a user named "maze" (user ID 1663676) ordered a couple of recolors from me at $1.00 each. They sent money through PayPal (their PayPal ID is deja_custom_art) and I delivered their order. They said thank you and all seemed well.

Two weeks later, I got a notice from PayPal saying the buyer was asking for their money back due to not receiving what they paid for. I sent a few screen shots to show that they had received what they asked for, and then I went back to FP to send them a private message to see if they had been hacked.

Then I saw that their FP account had been frozen, so I reached out to the site moderators to find out if maze had been frozen for scamming. The answer was yes, they believed the player was intentionally scamming people. I've sent that screen shot to PayPal as well, and I'm currently waiting to see if they release the money to me. I hope my screen shots of our interactions and the mod's confirmation will be enough to convince them.

In the meantime, beware someone called maze buying art from you, the PayPal ID deja_custom_art, and the email address attached to it, theservicepack101@gmail.com.

I won't give out their address, because I don't actually want someone to go do something to them, but I will say that it is in Pinellas Park, FL. I'm not saying don't sell to them, but if you do, get payment up front and document everything about the sale to make sure you have proof in case you need it.

My roommate is employed, but I'm down to one part-time job that I do not enjoy. As someone with ASD, my current work environment is very bad for me mentally. I am trying to find a new job, but have not been able to find anything that would be better for me. Food service, retail and custodial are all hiring, but all would aggravate my symptoms. I need something that won't expose me to a lot of strangers, hold me responsible for other people's food, or expose me to acrid scents. With inflation skyrocketing more than it has in forty years, this was a bad time for my rent to go up, but it did, and by 5%. My wages, however, went up about 2% this year. Gas costs twice as much as it did two years ago, and food is going up, too. I'm trying to get back into art for stress relief... if I stay stressed maybe I'll get good at it. x_x

I just uploaded my first pay-to-use base last night. I have used a few free bases/sketches from other artists recently, and I was thinking I might make a free base too. It would probably be a pretty simple one, because I'd like to be paid in some way if I work really hard on something, but I would still try to make it something people would want to actually use.

That said, what should it be?

I am better at animals than people, and I'm rubbish at backgrounds. So, when you make suggestions, please keep that in mind. ;)
